The inventor Professor "Caractacus Potts" acquires the rusting wreck of an all conquering racing car and transforms it into the "fantasmagorical" road machine, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which can fly, and travel on water.  This was the car which tool the Professor, Miss Truly and the children, Jemima and Jeremy, off on their adventures with the notorious Baron Bomburst.
