Did we ever mention that Charles Burns was building a Time Machine?

We are delighted to report that his silhouette time machine is now live and active, and ready to guide you to one of his virtual studio days.

He arranges studio days at various times of the day using Zoom technology. This ensures that people from any time zone, anywhere in the world, can easily have their silhouettes cut out.
Virtual events are a wonderful new experience developed for use from the 'Roaring Twenties'!
In the privacy of your own home where you can relax and begin to challenge Charles with poses you would never dream of adopting at a wedding or corporate dinner. As with the happy couple silhouetted below. As an artist this is presenting him with a whole new set of challenges. The glimpses people offer him into their lives feels like a unique privilege.

Silhouettes are all about travelling in time.

The silhouettes we own today are, often literally, shadows from the past. That's why they can seem so important.
The silhouettes Charles makes today will eventually become shadows of tomorrows past - of our time - today!

Your silhouette can be part of your history, history in the making.

Who is it a silhouette of?
What time does it come from?
Who is it by?
Tell Your Story in your way

Imagine if you will...

Claude Marin Silhouette owned by Charles Burns

You find a silhouette in your parent's attic, languishing forgotten at the bottom of an old trunk as you help them to pack and move all their belongings to their new home. You ask your Mother 'Who is this?'
It is your Grandmother's silhouette.

This was the first time Charles had seen his Grandmother.

The silhouette was not stuck down, but came loose from a printed backing paper in a glassine envelope. It had that typical quick-cut, street-art feel so typical of Montmartre. The artist cut an amazingly thin piece of paper to delineate the front of her blouse. He was amazed it didn't break years ago! The backing card indicated it was cut by Claude Marin in Montmartre, Paris and his Mother estimated it to have been made in the early 1930s. What a memory!

A silhouette artist attracts people like no other form of entertainment can.
